Commanded by Eric MacNaughton
The moment I was introduced to Warhammer, I was drawn to the Vampire Counts. The variety of troops is astounding, especially when compared to an army like the Empire. Every unit type is completely different from the others (okay, except for maybe Wights and Skeletons, but hey!). This makes it a lot of fun to assemble and paint a Vampire Counts army, and even more fun to play it. Then there are the Vampires themselves. These are incredibly powerful creatures, with some of the Counts and Lords being worth three to four times as much as an entire unit of enemy troops. And again, with five different bloodlines, each with their own rich history, you can make up an endless variety of armies. Besides, there's something about immortal, all-powerful beings that just makes you want to play them. I'm still in the early stages of assembling my armies of darkness, but I've spent a fair bit of time organizing and refining my army lists. I'd have to say that my favourite bloodline overall is the Blood Dragons, but by far the most interesting character is Manfred Von Carstein. You can see both of these armies, and several more, on my Army List page. Some of the units repeat themselves regularly (I don't have an infinite amount of cash to spend on this hobby), but I've tried to mix things up as much as possible to match the unique nature of each bloodline. The "Legions of the Dead" section at the end of the Vampire Counts army book was quite helpful while doing this, but in the end I've decided against most (only most) of the optional rules listed there. Hopefully in the next few months I'll have an opportunity to fully battle test some of my armies (lord knows the vampires are spoiling for a fight). Once I've properly trounced my brother and sister-in-law's armies, I'll be sure to report back on my Battle's page. Until then, be sure to check out my Tactics page, where I'll be putting a few pointers that I've learned from my research so far, and those really interesting black scrolls (now where did I put those things...). |
