Romania Update Jan. 2004
In what can only be described as a good news
update, my latest report.
From December 26 to January 3, 2004 I was
back in Romania, anticipating a goodly measure of progress. Why? Because I
was going to be with a translator who said she could get me into orphanages.
I was not disappointed; we visited two orphanages in Pitesti. The first had
70 residents, ranging in age from 10 to 26. Some were attending university
courses.
Here is what the director agreed to do.
Little wonder I have no doubt God is involved!
-
He gave permission for two weeks of day
camp
-
His residents will have time off from
school
-
One or two workers will accompany the
residents to help us
-
He offered to help with transportation
We will have between 35 and 40 children for
each day camp for between 6 - 8 hours per day.
Children at the Orphanage

We also received permission to run a
week-long day camp at a kindergarten orphanage for handicapped children. We
are looking into how many camps per day we will need to accommodate the
different needs of the children.

The local church approved the use of their
building to hold the day camps for the older children.
An older gentleman in the church who used to
work with the handicapped is interested in being involved in this ministry.
He also has a house that is sitting empty and is interested in having it be
used for the handicapped in some way.
The camps start April 26 and run for three
consecutive weeks. The nationals want me to bring four experienced
volunteers to work with handicapped residents.
I was able to take in five 140-liter bins of
supplies. This included 3.5 bins of Sunday School material, 1 bin of crafts
and half a bin of good reading material for a church to set up an English
library to be used as an outreach tool. The airline agent waived extra
luggage fees, and all the bins arrived with me in Romania.

After the camps I will connect with the Word
of Life medical team in Romania for the following week.
I plan to stay in Romania/Ukraine till the
end of August working with a number of groups.
Prayer would greatly be appreciated as this
is a brand new venture for all of us. If this goes well, there is a good
possibility of being able to expand into more orphanages.
Sincerely,
Henry
