The History of Siksika Ambulance Services

Until midnight of August 31st 1997, members of the Siksika Nation, who required the services of an ambulance, called Gleichen Blackfoot Ambulance Service based out of Gleichen.  At that time, Gleichen Blackfoot Ambulance Service withdrew it's services and Siksika Nation ,consistant with their vision for self government, took over the operation of it's own ambulance service.

Since that time, Siksika's emergency crew has been located in the reserve at the intersection of Secondary Highways 901 and 547.  Shortly after the relocation of the service, and the change over of ownership to Chief and Counsel, Siksika Ambulance Services aquired new ambulances and was fully geared up for emergencies with modern equipment.  With the change in venue, Siksika Ambulance Service had begun improving their equipment quality and staff training, raising the basic level of care provided to the members of the Siksika Nation.

Today,   Siksika Ambulance employs two Paramedics, and four full time EMT-A's.  As well, there are two Full Time EMR positions that are open to Siksika Nation people when they have obtained a minimum of EMR certification with APPA.
