This page includes both:
(1)Final
Fantasy VI soundfont
(2)Final
Fantasy VII soundfont (optimized for FFVII PC)
(3)Some
MIDIs for download that work well with the FF6 soundfont.
If you've never heard this music or played the games before, a brief description is in order: The games are practically interactive novels, with epic plots that develop as you play them. So, the music is very thematic and descriptive in nature. The music is very popular in its native country, Japan, where very recently the the Final Fantasy VII soundtrack made number 3 on the music charts. It is very different from what you might expect from a video game soundtrack: the composer constanty is changing styles, writing in different genres, experimenting with new ideas. It might even take a while for you to get used to, but once you develop a taste for it, you will love it! Although it is virtually unheard of in North America (and the soundtrack is hard to find in stores as it is an import item), it is gradually picking up an audience. Myself, I think he must be a musical genius to take a collection of low-quailty, lifeless sounds and transform them into such stimulating music.
Note:I For those without soundfonts, I recommend the Yamaha XG synth which gives generally the best playback of these MIDIs. In fact, I recommend it anyway. And now, on with the downloads!
Final
Fantasy VI SOUNDFONT version 3:
This is a soundfont
(.sf2) for awe32/64. It only needs 512k of DRAM on your soundblaster
card.

Changes from version
2:
-Totally redone
from scratch
-Correct looping
in the samples
-Correct volume,
and pitch. Tuned to General MIDI.
-The square, sine
waves now added.
-Much more general
MIDI compatible. MIDIs that played strangely before now play correctly.
-Basically, sounds
a heluva lot better.
It includes: the Magitek factory sounds and that wierd mines of Narshe sound. All we have to do now is write MIDIs specially for the soundfont (or edit the existing ones, which is much easier) It only lacks the distorted voice that says "cho co bo" (soon I'll try and get that sound included).
It seems to play really well with many of the songs from Final Fantasy VII PC (at least my favorite songs in the game do :) Well, maybe it doesn't play as well as the 4 meg FFVII PC soundfont, but for those of us limited to 512k on our soundcards, this soundfont is MUCH, MUCH better than the 512k soundfont included with the game.

This soundfont is optimized specifically for Final Fantasy VII PC. Its purpose is to provide an alternative to the 512k soundfont included with the actual game. The original 512k soundfont IMHO sucked (royally). Now you can get it sounding much more faithful to the fantastic music of the original game!!
AND
NOW FOR SOME MIDIs TO GO WITH YOUR NEW SOUNDFONT!
| Name | Size | Description |
| Prelude3.mid | 24kb | The Final Fantasy Prelude. It plays very well! You'll be sitting there imagining that starfield in the background. Download it! |
| War.mid | 4kb | War of the Magi: The introduction to Final Fantasy III, very close but... not quite there.... hmmm.... |
| Esper2r.mid | 13kb | "Another World of Beasts", the esper theme. Almost perfect playback. |
| Narshe2.mid | 5kb | You'll have to hear this one to belive it. It's almost identical to the original. I just had to do about 5 minutes of editing to it to make it include the correct percussion and woodwinds. It is really almost completely accurate! |
| Gau.mid | 9kb | Gau's Theme from Final Fantasy III, once again, almost PERFECT playback! |
| Empire.zip | 4kb | "Troops March On", "The Empire" Two similar songs, both are very close to the original, just a few minor differences. |
| FFend.zip | 42kb | The ending theme for Final Fantasy II and III, zipped together because I'm running out of webspace!! They both are close to accurate (but not as accurate as the above ones), a few minor differences, but still very good! |
| FF7world.mid | 18k | The music played in Final Fantasy VII when on the main world map. A slow piece for strings, plays fairly well on the soundfont. |
