Weekly News Update 01/29/02

It's COOOLLLDDDDDDddd out there.

So what do we do when its cold. Options include increasing that swim volume and develop good lungs for the bike and run by doing swim intervals. Try some Lung Busters and decrease the number of times you breath each length with rest. Another option is to try some deep water running. Not only is there less chance of slipping on the ice or discomfort due to temperature but it also allows you to increase minutes running with far less chance of injury.

If you have not already invested in an indoor bike trainer (relatively cheap) then do so. You can put you regular road or mountain bike on the rollers and get in a great workout. No better way to satisfy the couch potato in you to watch your favorite TV shows or rent some movies and still get in the ride. Even putting on the music and just riding to the tunes can make for a fun indoor workout. Of course, my personal favorite is watching previous Ironman Hawaii Broadcasts that I taped. Nothing like imagining riding along the Queen K highway when its minus 30 outside and 6 inches of snow on the ground. Get a humidifier and turn up the heat in the house if you want the "real" experience.

Take care out there and remember to think Blazn Fast!

Race Reports
Erik A reports that the Golden Bear Open was a successful indoor meet. Multiple heats and multiple ages meant there was a race for almost everyone. Congrats to Erik on his 5:20, 1500m event.
Training Feature

Alex and Richard continued the friendly rivalry in last weeks volume week with Richard for only about the 3rd week in the last year out lasting Alex in minutes. Haven't heard how everyone else fared but both Richard and Alex met the 10% increase goal.

This week is LONG RUN week, everyone should look to increase the longest run by 5-10%. Use the new members log area to track your training and lets see how many make it this week and email us and let us know. For those members training for the Yakima marathon this is a key goal this week.
