Weekly News Update 02/17/02Many athletes make the mistake of pushing hard in too many workouts, they fail to realize that the majority of workouts are not speed workouts but build on a variety of skills. The long slow run is meant to build slow twitch and consistent effort that you can draw on in the latter stages of a race or in the longer race distances. For those that train for non racing means the long run is beneficial in calorie burning and weight loss. We have a team in a 4 X 400 relay at the Lindsey Park meet but need a 4th runner. Race ReportsNone.This weeks TrainingI hope that everyone enjoyed a well deserved rest week, I know I did after cutting back about 3 hours of training and am ready to go back to business this week. This week is VOLUME week, you should take your highest week of training in the last month and try to up the duration NOT distance about 10-15%. Make sure that you reduce the amount of speed work to retain health and reduce chances of injury during the volume week. Rumor has it that some of the team may be looking at 15+ hours this week.
