A Personal Commentary "I don’t know." These are the most frustrating words to hear, especially when delivered by those who are supposed to know. When my Internet service goes down, more often than not, my provider’s technical support people don’t seem to know a damn thing. What is the problem and when might it be fixed? "I don’t know." I could get that same fine quality of service by hollering over the fence to seek advice from my neighbour’s dog. He wouldn’t know either. A friend of mine has a health problem that no one seems to be able to figure out. It’s been seven years now of "I don’t know", and I can only imagine her frustration. If my mechanic couldn’t figure out what was wrong with my car within seven hours, never mind seven years, I’d fire him. Now, imagine if after seven years nobody in the medical profession seems to know what your health problem is. With that kind of expertise, you might as well give my neighbour’s dog a stethoscope. I wish I knew why our justice system sets all criminals free long before they complete their sentences. I see that our Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms states that Canada is founded upon principles that "recognize the supremacy of God" yet I wonder why our government does not. I thought I knew the answer, only to remember that it was the "meek", not the "clueless", who were supposed to inherit the earth. I don’t know, maybe the neighbour’s dog really does have all the answers. Too bad he’s not talking. Ron Thornton |
