A little bit about us:

In the summer of 2002, we made a major move by leaving Grande Prairie and taking up residence on the Turnbull family farm near Onoway.

We are living in the house that Bill's parents were living in before their passing. The house has undergone major renovations with Bill doing most of the work himself, including plumbing, electrical, flooring, cabinet installation and much more. There is still some work to be done but most people will tell you that renovations are never completed; by the time you think you are finished, it is time to start over again.

Bill grew up on the farm and left the area in 1963 to pursue a teaching career which eventually took him to Grande Prairie where he spent 36 years, 29 of them in the classroom before taking early retirement in 1997. His teaching field was primarily Physical Education but during the last few years of his career, he switched to computers. He taught at Montrose Junior High (13 years), Alexander Forbes (3) and finished at Crystal Park (13). At CPS he had the opportunity to work with special needs as well as elementary students in addition to his regular junior high duties. At one point he was teaching computer literacy to every student from grade 1 to 9 and knew every child in the school by name. In addition to his teaching, he was heavily involved in the coaching and organization of track & field and running events in the South Peace area. He also promoted the Macintosh computer platform as president of the local Macintosh user group.

Laura (a Hilda girl) moved to Grande Prairie in 1971 to continue a teaching career but left that field in 1976 to pursue other interests in the private sector. She met Bill in 1971 and they were married in 1972. She returned to the school environment in 1983 as a secretary (couldn't stand Bill having so many holidays), then retired in 2000. Her special interest (obsession!!, addiction!!) is genealogy. She maintains her membership in the Grande Prairie & District Branch of the Alberta Genealogical Society. She was made a life member of the AGS in 2003 for her long time association (since 1978). She presently holds the position of webmaster. Laura is also a Reunion user, the best genealogy program available.

Since moving to Onoway, we have become involved with the Onoway and District Historical Guild, an organization with the goal of creating a museum to highlight the history of Onoway and District. We are both on the executive.
