McCormick Deering W6 restoration - March - May, 2006

W6 was purchased at auction in Westlock - June 2005. It was not running at time of purchase. Installed new carb kit and cleaned gas tamk of sludge. Fired tractor in January 2006 and it appeared to run well. No knocks or major leaks. Decided to start body restoration as mechanical thought to be OK. Tires would have to be replaced.

Teardown commenced on January 11, 2006. Note that the engine is quite clean, indicating to us that there had been some engine work done sometime in the past.

The fenders were quite rusted on the inside but there was very little damage to the sheet metal so there was not a lot of body work to be done.

As you can see, the hood and most other sheet metal had lost its red colour. The only choice was to take it down to bare metal.

No sand blasting for us, it was all done with hand labour. This is what a lot of elbow grease can accomplish

Body all ready for prepping. Chassis was cleaned with a wire brush and not taken down to bare metal
