On the Caribbean side, Tortuguero Nationl Park is only accessible by boat or plane.

We took a 1 1/2 hour boat ride to get there after a very rough bus ride over gravel roads.

We stayed at the Jungle Lodge Resort across the canal from Tortuguero Village

This area is the prime nesting area of the Green Sea Turtle and has been a protected area since the 1950's.

Wildlife abounds - howler monkeys woke us up at 4:00 AM each morning.
