The Vashiral Siberian Homestead - May 2007

Looking up the driveway toward the main road. One of the neighbors riding her horse down the road. Looking down the driveway from the road where the horse was. A good view of our sign, Vashiral Siberians, on the left side of the driveway.

Looking at the Emergency Services number of our property. Every rural property in Mountainview County must have one of these now. A view of both signs at the end of the driveway. Walking down the driveway from the road, you start to see the kennels behind the house.

A good view of the garden on the left side of the driveway immediately in front of the new deck and gazebo. The trees have really grown up since 1996. The bird bath and feeder were moved a few years ago to this new location because of the neighbors and their guns. A good look at the gazebo and deck in front of the house. This is all new since 1996. We spend a lot more time outside in the summer now.

Another look at the deck and gazebo from another angle. Also the well in the front of the house. I finally shocked it last year to clean out the iron bacteria that was making the water taste bad. I guess that I should really shock it every year. Iron and calcium are a problem for the wells in this area. A look at the old deck and the new one behind it. Also a few of the older dogs (Roxie, Trooper and Spirit) who prefer to go out front instead of the back yard. Going around the side of the house to the back yard. Lots of evergreen trees have been transplanted. The back deck has been rebuilt and the area underneath cleaned out for the dogs to use. In the middle of the picture is the sump pump used to get rid of excess ground water from under the house so the basement doesn't flood. This is an essential item in this area as the water table is quite high. The water is used to water the evergreens in the back yard through a long pipe with holes drilled in it so it acts as a soaker hose.

A look at the kennels in the back yard. They're starting to show their age now and should be rebuilt in the next year or two. A closer look at the back of the house and fenced area for the dogs. The kids have their own patio made up of more interlocking brick and sidewalk slabs. Notice the overhang to prevent climbers from getting out, it works reasonably well. Now, they have to go underground to get out but we have lined some of the fencing with solid bags of cement. More of the fenced area showing some of the new kennel area behind it. This area was built using interlocking brick salvaged from the front of the house when the new deck was built. Nothing goes to waste here.

Another shot of the kennels from the trees in the back yard. There is a large play area behind the kennels that the dogs like. A look at the front corner of the house from the south side showing the deck, gazebo and driveway. A look at Spirit, the senior hostess relaxing beside my car. She was 10 years old last November and gets to run free much of the time. She has become my shadow whenever she is out with me which is most of the time.
