John Allen's
Timesaver Layout
A little history
John Allen was a consumate artist and one of his
many
gifts to to model railroading was the Timesaver layout.
A tightly woven collection of tracks it challenges
your ability to move rail cars to their correct locations -- in it's own
way as addictive as chess.
The call for information on plans comes up regularly
on r-m-r so I thought I would put a page together with pointers to the
several
locations on the web for information
The List
- Dale
Burnett at the University of Lethbridge has an interesting site that
outlines some
of the basic switching moves
- Scot Osterweil has a good page that provides a
trackplan for a 6' by 1' version
- A UK version of the Timesave exists on the
Minimum
Space Railway Modelling page
- Charlie Comstock actually built a
modular
diorama using the Timsaver
-
Mike
Tassano has also created a realistic shelf railroad industrial
design
for the Timesaver
- Da Trains has an excellent diagram of a Timesaver
that
is designed for
N
scale
-
Railway
Engineering (the home of definite opinions about trackwork and
switches)
have a picture of a pair of Timesaver layouts
- A Timesaver was incorporated into a 3' by 5'
beginner
layout in N as well
- Sillub
Technologies have a version of the Timesaver for their XTrkCad software
-
Challenger
Software produced a game called RRSwitch that allowed you
to play the
Timesave on your computer. Their Compuserve site seems to be
a little erratic,
but you can order the game
here.You
can
also download it here
New!
Scott Perry, a fellow r-m-r fan has recently
started a Timesaver page
too
