CADD PROGRAM
Computer Aided Drafting and Design Technology Certificate Program

Medicine Hat College offers the first year of SAIT's and Lethbridge Community College's Engineering Design and Drafting Technology Program. After successfully completing the first year at Medicine Hat College students may transfer to SAIT or LCC for their second and final year. Students also have the option of transferring to the Technical Illustrator program for their second year at Medicine Hat College. Upon successful completion of all courses in the program at Medicine Hat College, the student will be granted a one-year certificate.

The Program

The Computer Aided Drafting and Design Technology Program is designed to prepare individuals in both the traditional and the more advanced computer-aided drafting (CADD) skills to meet the demand of the changing Canadian industry. The program is suitable for both male and female students. Female graduates find the program an ideal outlet for their talents and are able to work in a field that provides equal opportunity for pay and advancement. The successful graduates will have a basic understanding of architecture, computers, mechanical and topographical drawing and design.

In their second year at the transfer college, students will learn more advanced skills in engineering and computer-aided design and manufacturing. Upon successful completion at SAIT and LCC the student will be awarded a diploma in Engineering Design and Drafting Technology.

Career Opportunities

Graduates will be employed by consulting engineers, land surveyors, mining companies, manufacturing companies, federal, provincial and municipal governments and educational institutes.

The broad engineering background enables a person to be employed in research, design, manufacturing and sales. The individual is an important member of any team engaged in supplying the goods and services required by modern technology.

Graduates of the two-year program are eligible for membership in the Alberta Society of Engineering Technologists after two years of suitable industrial experience.
