Arizona KOFA WILDLIFE REFUGE
CRYSTAL HILL (Kofa Wildlife Refuge) ( Arizona ) This is a no fee area located approximately
15 miles southeast of Quartzite. To get there go 9 miles south on US 95
(between mile posts 95 & 96) then turn east on desert road for another
6 miles. You'll see a sign beside the highway announcing Kofa National
Wildlife Refuge and Crystal Hill. This is essentially a desert road following
a natural gas line and is not well maintained. At mile 6 you'll arrive
at a sign announcing Crystal Hill and a box containing maps and regulations
concerning this area. A short distance further is a road to your left.
Take this to the camping areas. There are no facilities available at this
site. It is essentially a small mountain that has areas of crystal formations.
Most of it has been thoroughly picked through but some may still be found
if you persist. Many small crystals can be found in the wash below. Tools
of any type are not allowed when looking for crystals.
