Field Notes
This kind of observation and collecting
of field notes was new to this group of children, the skills had to be taught
first. Some of the skills that were taught were; how to do rubbings,
measurements, drawings, mapping, note taking, tallies, survey’s, and graphing.
Teaching the children how to observe is critical to their being
successful at observing. The children learned how to use their clipboards
effectively in the classroom before taking them outside the classroom. This was
a very important part of their learning. With continued practice the children's
skill as observers grew.
