The following areas and displays were prepared for our celebration:
A display of the children's model ships. A large tub of water was near by for the launching of the ships on their maiden voyage.
Water experiments - materials were put out for the children to use in demonstrating and discussing properties of water. Sample log books were proudly displayed as well
Art work - paintings, plasticine pictures, collages and drawings were hung on the walls.
Favorite books were chosen and set out to be read through and discussed.
Project work folders containing posters, maps, field notes, surveys, graphs, drawings, poems and stories were on racks.
The children arranged their fleet of model ships brought from home on table tops. They added captions so each child's contributions would be recognized.
Our topic web and the resulting word bank was on the wall and in pocket charts.
Student poems and stories were out to be read.
Portfolios with selected works
Murals. posters, pictures, fishing nets, sea animals, and ocean music all added to the ambiance of the evening.
