Paul Gilbert

Paul has been an environmental photographer for 25 years, travelling extensively throughout North America for up to 8 months a year. Over the past decade Paul's focus has been on wildflower and "flowerscape" photography, as he feels that flowers add a vital energy to landscape images. He enjoys exploring a variety of perspectives in his wildflower photographs, from intimate close-ups of a single bloom, to portraits of a plant in its local milieu, to big landscapes coloured with a kaleidoscope of wildflowers. Luminous images are the essence of Paul's photography. Due to the serendipitous nature of light on the landscape, Paul employs lightweight 35mm film cameras, moving swiftly on foot or mountain bike in pursuit of dynamic images.

Paul's images have been published in calendars, posters, audiovisual programs and books such as "The Last Wilderness". Many of his photographs have been purchased for private and corporate collections, and he has produced two books that showcase his images: "West Coast Impressions - The Dynamic British Columbia Landscape" and "Wild Colours - Canada's Rocky Mountain Wildflowers". His current work-in-progress is "Caressed by Light - Wildflowers of Western North America".
