Frank Wood, although originally born in Ontario, has spent the majority of his adult life in Alberta. At the age of six he started fishing for stocked rainbows and native brown trout in Germany, where he lived at the time. With the move back to Canada in the early seventies, he now found himself fishing for native brookies and the odd stocked rainbow, this time in Prince Edward Island. It was in P.E.I. at the age of 13 that Frank caught the fly fishing bug, while watching a solitary angler on a tailwater fishery. There was no turning back, and over the next couple of years he perfected his techniques on the ever patient and forgiving brookies. In 1979, he moved out west to Alberta, and fell in love with the Eastern Slopes region of Alberta. Now living in Edmonton, Frank became involved with numerous organizations. They included the Wilderness Sportsman's Club, Trout Unlimited, the Edmonton Trout Fishing Club, and the Federation of Fly Fishers. Then In 1986 he began to guide anglers on Prairie creek, the North Ram river, and other waters in the West central region of Alberta. During the off-season he developed and taught fly fishing courses with Edmonton Public Schools. In 1997 he started working with The Alberta Tourism Education Council to develop national standards for Freshwater Fishing Guides. This paid off, as in 1998 he became the first nationally certified guide in Alberta. Frank also started freelance writing in 1997, publishing articles in the Edmonton Sun, among others. 1998 was another busy year as he helped form and then joined the executive of the Alberta Sportfishing Industry Association. In July of 2000, Frank made the move from Edmonton to Calgary. This new location allows him to be closer to the foothills streams that are his second home. That same summer also saw him take his two future fly fisher girls Brynne and Jenna out into Kananaskis country for their first camping/fishing trip. The rest of the story, however, is still being written... Your Guides Our fishing guides
