Geshe
Ngawang Kaldan
was born in the Kham province of southeastern Tibet. He studied
for 15 years in the Monastic university of Drepung near Lhasa,
Tibet, & received his Geshe Lharampa Degree, from H.H. the
Dalai Lama. Geshe Kaldan escaped Tibet after the Chinese
occupation in 1959 & emigrated to Canada in 1974 under the
sponsorship of 4 Canadian families.
While in Edmonton he taught meditation & Tibetan language at
Grant MacEwan College. In the late 1980's, Geshe Kaldan moved
to Toronto, Ont., where he spent several years teaching Tibetan
& Buddhism at the University of Toronto. In 1992 Geshe Kaldan
moved back to Edmonton. He was the Spiritual Director of Gaden
Samten Ling Tibetan Buddhist Meditation Centre for eight years,
& taught 2 meditation sessions per week, as well as holding personal
appointments with students.
Geshe Kaldan gave teachings & retreats throughout the year on
the Four Foundation Practices, Medicine Buddha, White Tara,
Chenrezig & Vajrasattva. Geshe Kaldan was very loved and respected
by his many students. Geshe Kaldan passed away on February 23, 1998.
He is very much missed.
